As LXM and I rode home from the spokane BLM rally today, a woman drove by and informed us that, “All lives matter.” I suspect that I may have friends or family members who may agree with this statement as a retort to BLM. I may have uttered this as a reflexive response at some point. On its face, the retort conveys a view that transcends race. And that is a much more comfortable perspective than pondering the hard truth of systemic racism and my role in it. I believe my friends and family are good people.
